The M4 Sherman, commonly referred to as the Sherman tank, was a widely used medium tank by the United States and its allies during World War II. Named after Union General William Tecumseh Sherman, the tank was known for its reliability, ease of production, and versatility on the battlefield. Introduced in 1942, the Sherman played a crucial role in armored warfare, featuring a 75mm or 76mm main gun and adequate armor protection. Although it faced challenges against some of the more heavily armored German tanks, the Sherman's numerical superiority, mobility, and upgradability contributed significantly to the Allied victory in various theaters of the war.
